Threat of MOT cessation notices from the DVSA. What are the implications?
A very interesting email landed the other day from the DVSA essentially threatening MOT cessation notices. The actual subject line was:
‘More rigorous application of rules for motorcycle MOT standards’
Why are the DVSA threatening a more rigorous application of the rules?
- Is this a message for just bike testers or should everyone be paying attention?
- Does that mean testers have been getting away with missing failure items and not being punished?
- Has there been a spate of motorcycle accidents due to missed items?
Or is it just a storm in a teacup and someone feels the need to make a bit of noise to keep everyone in order?

TQI MOT – Guidance for MOT Managers on how to deal with TQI data
In October 2018 the DVSA published new TQI (test quality information) guidance explaining what information MOT testers and MOT managers should regularly check.
It’s now a requirement that managers and testers understand more about how to review their TQI data.
